Young Naturalists

Picture
We our class devoted their gardening time with Mrs. Pechtel this week to observing the out-of-doors and recording their observations and reflections in a nature journal.  The children's concentration was amazing, and their journal entries were focused and thoughtful.

Enjoy photos on our Science page!

Last Chance to Rise to the
Spring Box Top Challenge!

Picture
Our PTO has issued a new Box Top challenge!  The class that collects the most Box Tops between May 7 and May 21 will get to keep the dollar amount their class collected!  They will also receive a Popsicle Party!!  Start sending in your Box Tops right away.  You can attach 25 at a time to the collection sheet you received, or send them in baggies or envelopes.  Happy collecting!

Hollywood to Hollywood
We've made it to California
Only 141 more miles to Hollywood!

Picture
The second graders have read 19.580 minutes, moving the cyclist 1,958 miles on our hallway map to Mojave Desert!  Our goal is to read enough nimutes that we move from Hollywood Elementary School to Hollywood, California, a distance of 2,099 miles.
  • Please send in your child's record sheet on Monday, May 21.
  • What counts?  Reading to self, reading to a younger sibling, or being read to.
  • If you can't find the "official" record sheet, simply tally the number of minutes your child has read during the week, sign the paper, and send it to school.

Spring Garden Work Day!
Saturday, May 19th

9:30 until noon

Picture
Come to help prepare our garden for our summer growing season.  Many hands are needed to keep this unique treasure manageable during the summer months.  We will be trimming, weeding, clearing garden paths of overgrowth (before it gets out of hand) and spreading mulch.  Thank you to Hollerbach Excavating (one of our Hollywood families) for the generous donation of mulch!
Come and bring the whole family.  Stay the whole time, or just an hour.  No help is too small!

Free pizza at noon for all workers!

We had a great time at our fall work day and look forward to another successful work day this spring!  See you there!
